James F. Thorpe, 74, of Sandusky, died early Wednesday afternoon, March 7, 2007, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, after a lengthy illness.
He was born May 14, 1932, in Sandusky, and had been employed with General Motors. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventists, where he formerly served as Head Deacon and treasurer. He enjoyed camping, traveling, cooking and gardening.
Mr. Thorpe is survived by his wife, Gayle (Meacham) Thorpe, whom he married Oct. 16, 1954; three daughters, Cheryl Eschenauer and Kara (Jack) Beasley ofSandusky and Robyn (Fran) Nason of Oak Harbor; two sons, Martin (Kelly) Thorpe of Vermilion and Chris (Judy) Thorpe of Vickery; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joan (Bernie) Zeiher of Toledo and Carol Herzog of Huron; and a brother, Richard (Pat) Thorpe of Huron.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Malinda (Sumser) Thorpe, and twin grandsons.
