Joan C. Vontell, 58, of Castalia, died, Friday, March 2, 2007, in St. Francis Health Care Center, Green Springs, after a lengthy illness.
She was born May 16, 1948, in Waterbury, Conn., to George and Grace (Lombardi) Wiggins, now deceased. She worked as a health care assistant in Connecticut, and the Providence Care Center, Sandusky. She loved to read and study the Bible, where she found great comfort. A member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sandusky, she was instrumental in starting a support group for the chronically ill, that met at Firelands Hospital, until her own illness prevented her to continue. She taught Sunday school in Connecticut, and has helped many people all her life.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Raymond Vontell: sons, Wayne Vontell of Castalia and Jesse (Jennifer) Vontell of Lorain; grandchildren, Andrew and Erin; sister, Rosemary (Ed) Kotski of Endicott, N.Y.; brother, Robert Wiggins; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday in Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where prayer services will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Catholic Church, 1605 W. Jefferson St., Sandusky. The Rev. Chris Kardzis will officiate. Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery.
