John A. Bakewell Jr., 83, of Huron, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2007, in Stein Hospice Care Center.
John was born Sept. 13, 1923, in Brownsville Pa. He retired from Western-Southern Life Insurance and worked for Foster Chevrolet. He enjoyed hunting and trap shooting and was a member of the Community Church of Nazarene, American Legion, VFW and AMVETS.
John served in the U.S. Army from 1942-46. He served three years in Germany in the 3rd Army under General George Patton and was in the Battle of the Bulge.
He is survived by his son, Jack (Donna) of Milan; daughters, Mary C. (James R. Kellam) of Sandusky, Roberta (Chris) Wiedle of Clyde and Susan of Vermilion; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his brother, William of Baltimore; and sister, Peg Rorden of Huron.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Janis Ryan, in 1977; brother, Harold, in 2006; his parents, John A. and Mary E. (Weiss) Bakewell.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Community Church of Nazarene, 4013 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.
