Joseph D. Steager, 78, of Fremont, died Sunday, March 4, 2007, in Medical University of Toledo Hospital.
He was born Jan. 1, 1929, in Williamsport, Pa., to George and Emily (Timothy) Steager, now deceased. He graduated from Townsend High School in 1946 and was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Vickery. He was a past president of United Steel Worker’s Union.
He retired from Kelsey-Hayes as a tow motor operator. Prior to that he worked as a credit manager at Firestone, Steager and Peters Store, and as a mechanic at Dodge Plymouth.
He is survived by his wife, Regina (Perini) Steager, whom he married April 3, 1977, in New York City; one son, Joe Steager of Canal Winchester, Ohio; five daughters, Connie (Ken) Heiberger and Karen (Tony) Hoffman, both of Lancaster, Ohio, Rebecca (Kurt) Black of Sandusky, Laura (Eric) Legg of Lancaster and Amy (Kyle) Welty of Westerville, Ohio; stepson, Dennis (Joyce) Blue of Port Clinton; stepdaughter, Linda Dray of Fremont; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; brother, Timothy (Barbara) Steager of Vickery; and a sister, Carolyn (Bob) Ladd of Delphos, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by a twin brother, John William “Jackie” Steager on March 10, 1929.
Visitation will be on from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Vickery, with the Rev. David Klappenbach officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
