Mildred C. “Millie” Smith, 95, formerly of Camp Street, Sandusky, passed away Wednesday evening, Feb. 28, 2007, in Erie County Care Facility after a brief illness.
She was born May 28, 1911, to William Zieber and Helen (Laessle) Zieber Faulhaber. During her life, Mrs. Smith was employed at the Avenue Hair Salon and Ahrens Hat Shop. She particularly enjoyed working as a presiding judge at various polling locations around Sandusky. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Sandusky, and the Democratic Women of Erie County. Her interests included her grandchildren, playing cards, craft projects and working in her yard. She always looked forward to seeing “the dock gang” and her friends at the donut shop, as well as spending time with her cats, Gracie and Goldie.
She is survived by her son, Larry E. (Linda Sloan) of Sandusky; one granddaughter, Melinda (Mike) Ahleman of Tecumseh, Mich.; and one grandson, Mark Smith of Mansfield; three great-grandsons, Mark Lee, Nickolaus and Luke Smith of Mansfield; a nephew, Jack Kubach of Sandusky; and many other close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, on Dec. 28, 1979; her parents; one brother, Carl Zieber and one sister, Betty Kubach.
Friends may call from noon Saturday until the time of services at 2 p.m. in Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Wanda L. Ray will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
