Vern A. Barnes, 73, of East County Road 32, Bellevue, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, in Firelands Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 2, 1933, in Seneca County in Ohio, the son of Clyde E. and Ilo Waive (Culver) Barnes, now deceased. Vern graduated from Melmore High School and retired in 1990 from New Departure in Sandusky. He was a member and deacon of Fremont Baptist Temple. Vern enjoyed bowling, fishing and golfing.
Survivors include his wife, Martha “Kathy” (Rice) Barnes; sons, Vern A. (Carla) Barnes of Plattsburg, N.Y., and Lynn S. (Mary Lou) Barnes of Tiffin, Ohio; daughter, Yvonne (Jeff) Lagrou of Fremont; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, his sisters, Helen Evans, Mabel Barnett, Mary Swerlein, Doris Wagner and Ethel Jacobs; brothers, Clyde Barnes, Kenneth Barnes, Paul Barnes and Earl Barnes; and a grandson, Maxwell Barnes, preceded him in death.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Foos and Son Funeral Home, 311 W. Main St., Bellevue. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Fremont Baptist Temple, 1130 S. County Road 198, Fremont. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
