Robert J. Rieger, 87, of Sandusky, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at Providence Care Center.
He was born April 21, 1919, in Cleveland. Mr. Rieger was a World War II Army veteran having served in the Battle of the Bulge. He and his wife, Nellie, owned and operated Park Home Bakery for 25 years until they sold it in 1972. He then worked at Chef’s Pantry until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of Holy Angles Catholic Church in Sandusky. Mr. Rieger enjoyed working on cars and boating — especially his Lyman Boats.
Mr. Rieger is survived by a daughter, Mary E. Rieger, and sons, Christian R. and Robert P. (Tamara) Rieger, all of Sandusky, and four grandchildren, Robert J., Amanda M., Andrea L. and Kristen N. Rieger.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Nellie (Guilfoyle) Rieger; parents, Christian and Anna (Malchow) Rieger; sons, Daniel and Edward Rieger; and brother, Edward Rieger.
Funeral Service will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Angles Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Chris Kardzis will officiate. Interment will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park in Huron.
