Susan A. Sharpe, 88, of Sandusky, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus.
She was born Jan. 12, 1919, in Castalia. She was employed as a switchboard operator for the former Good Samaritan Hospital in Sandusky, and retired from the Sandusky Police Department as a civilian dispatcher after 17 years. She was active in Girl Scouts for 57 years, and was a troop leader, president of Erie Shores Girl Scout Council and secretary of the Girl Scout softball program. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for many years, secretary of the life and growth committee, and the only women to receive the Lamb Award. Susan received the 1988 Sandusky Register Community Service Award and also the Women of the Year Award. She was a member of VFW Lowell C. Hein Post 2529 Auxiliary.
She is survived by daughters, Muriel Krawetzki of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and Phyllis Sharpe of Sandusky; son, David G. (Roberta) Sharpe of Sandusky; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a niece and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merley Sharpe in 1965; parents, George and Susan (Stefanik) Jurey; sisters, Grace Witte and Irene Uhlik; and brothers, John and Sam Liptock.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where VFW Post 2529 Auxiliary will host memorial services at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Gary Ulrich officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
