James R. Mariea, 74, died Dec. 23, 2006, in his home after a long struggle with lung cancer.
He was born Jan. 15, 1932 in Fort Jennings, Ohio. He spent most of his early life in Ohio and served in the Army during the Korean War. He married Georgia Lowman in 1956 and finished college in Indiana. He worked for IBM and in the insurance industry. He and his wife moved to Salem from Salt Lake City in 1992, to be closer to their children. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Lisa Fithian, Pamela Mariea-Nason, Laura Davenport and Julia Mariea; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, James; his parents; brother, Neil; and sister, Phyllis.
Remembrances may be made to Mid-Willamette Valley Hospice.
