Mary Ann (Smith) Ferdinandsen, 75, of Port Clinton, passed away in the early morning hours of Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2006, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Main Campus, after a lengthy illness.
She was born April 2, 1931, in Sandusky. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Norwalk. She loved to cook, entertain and celebrate life. She spent most of her time doing for others and taking care of her family, friends, and grandchildren.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jack T. Ferdinandsen of Port Clinton; a daughter, Jacquie (Greg) Koch of Huron; a son, Michael D. (Karen) Ferdinandsen, with whom she shared a home in Port Clinton; three grandchildren, Amy (Tom) Harrington and Rob (Amy) Koch, both of Columbus, Ohio and Heidi Koch of Philadelphia, Pa.; four great-grandchildren, Ashley and Will Harrington and Garrett and Kaden Koch; four sisters, Helen Platte of Monroeville, Nellie Weatherspoon of Huron, and Anna Willis and Betty Dickman, both of Sandusky; a brother, Harry Smith of Sandusky; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Pursis (Wiley) Smith; her brothers, Joseph, Donald and Roy Smith; and her sisters, Ethel Stark and Katherine Wilhelm.
Friends will be received from 5-9 p.m. Thursday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where a brief celebration service will be 1:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park in Huron.
