Viola Rose (Thorpe) Staley, 92, Sandusky, passed away Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, in Stein Hospice Care Center.
She was born April 9, 1914, in Sandusky, and was a 1932 graduate of Sandusky High School. She was employed as head cook for Perkins Schools cafeteria for 20 years until her retirement in 1974. She was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, served as a Cub Scout den mother, and was a member of the Mother's Club, End of the Month Club, and XYZ Church Club. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening, knitting, crocheting, quilting, reading and cooking.
Mrs. Thorpe is survived by three sons, Paul B. (Karen) Staley of Saline, Mich., Robert (Lynn) Staley of Huron and Lee John (Susan) Staley of Sandusky; five grandchildren, Beth Ann Shook, Kimberly Sue Staley, Michael Lee Staley, Andrew Joseph Staley and Greggory Allen Staley; and two great-grandchildren, Lindsey Ann Shook and Taylor Rose Shook.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bertram Staley in 1991, whom she married March 16, 1941; her parents, August and Louise (Baum) Thorpe; and a brother, Wayne Thorpe.
Friends will be received from 3-6 p.m. Thursday in Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday The Rev. Andrea Starn of Resurrection Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery.
