Howard R. Crawford, 88, of Perrysville, Ohio, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006 in Castle Nursing Home, Millersburg, Ohio after a lengthy illness.
He was born July 21, 1918 in Lorain, Ohio, son of Arthur Milton and Constance May (Ritzentyler) Crawford, now deceased. He had lived in Norwalk and New London for many years and in Jackson and Ray, Ohio for 30 years and Perrysville for the last four years. Mr. Crawford served in the U.S. Navy for six years. He was part of the Doolittle Raid on Japan aboard the USS Fanning. He retired from Clevit Harris in 1972. He was an avid hunter and bowler. Mr. Crawford was a member of the Game Breaders Association. He passed away on the same day as his grandfather
He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Berkey) Crawford, whom he married Jan. 19, 1946; his children, Cynthia (Robert) Dodd of Beverly, Wash., David (Mary) Crawford of Bellville, Ohio, Arthur Crawford of Amity, Ohio, Norene Crawford of Loudonville, Ohio, Judy (Marvin) Smith of Mesa, Ariz. and Juanita (James) Oney of New London; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harry Crawford.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Earl and Carl Crawford.
Friends may call from 7 - 9 p.m. Dec. 29 in Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London. A private memorial service will be at a later date.
