Wayne L. "Wiley" Kirtley, 64, of Sandusky, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, in Stein Hospice Care Center.

He was born Sept. 20, 1945, in Hawthorne, Calif., and was a 1963 graduate of South High School in Torrence, Calif. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Wiley was employed by Routh Packing Company as a butcher for 37 years, retiring in 2007.

He attended The Chapel, and was a member of American Legion Post 83y, AMVETS Post 17, and VFW Post 2529, all of Sandusky. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, loved the water, vacationing and spending time with his grandchildren and family.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene "Darby" (Kautz) Kirtley; daughters, Kelli (Curt) Oddo of Sandusky and Jami (Brian) Camp of Huron; grandchildren, Macie, Maggie, Kennedy, Sam and Kendall; brother, Gary Kirtley of Missouri; best friend, Jack "Mort" Sherwood Jr. of Sandusky; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Ellen (Shields) Kirtley; and a brother, Floyd Kirtley.

Friends may call 5-9 P.M. Tuesday at The Chapel, 4444 Galloway Road, Sandusky, where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Dave Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron, where American Legion Post 83 will hold a military tribute. Following the graveside service, the family will host a gathering at The Chapel for family and friends.
