NORWALK The North Fairfield teen who kept investigators busy for more than three weeks after she hid out in her boyfriend's apartment is fighting the charges filed against her. Abbi Obermiller, 17, appeared in Huron County juvenile court on Tuesday with her attorney, Vickie Ruffing, a former Erie County assistant prosecutor.

NORTH FAIRFIELD Abbi Obermiller is no longer a runaway. Obermiller, 17, was last seen at her grandparents' home June 6. Sometime that night, she left this note: "I just couldn't take any more of this drama,' the note read. "It's not good for me. Lol. Hope to see you soon when this all blows over. Love, Abbi.'

NORWALK A tree grows in Norwalk, but not for much longer. After much talk, the honey locust blocking a sign at a downtown business is going down. The Norwalk tree board voted 3-0 Tuesday in favor of allowing Uptown Cafe owner Miguel Lugo to remove the tree at his own expense and replace it with another of the same variety.

NORWALK Another grocery store has come and gone at 80 Whittlesey Ave. -- the third one in recent years. Valu King Food Market announced it would shut its doors by the end of the business day this Saturday, but a store employee on Tuesday said the store had already closed.

NORWALK A federal judge sentenced Casa Fiesta owner Ramon Ornelas to a year and a day in jail for harboring and concealing 58 illegal immigrants, mail fraud and submitting false tax returns.

NORWALK Be on time. Avoid black shirts when working in the heat. Wear sunscreen. A few days into their summer jobs, dozens of area teens have already learned a thing or two about the daily grind. While their peers are baby-sitting, playing sports or hanging around the house, these teens wake up early five days a week and punch the clock. The teenagers are part of a work program administered by Job and Family Services and funded by the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.
