Ice jams along the shoreline near Marblehead lighthouse drew the attention of visitors on a sunny Friday afternoon.
The ice is beautiful, but very dangerous !! It makes my heart cringe watching these people walking on this ice. This ice can open up and the people could fall in the water, then the ice will close over them, drowning them. In Huron, when I was a child, I lost a friend in just this way. They found his body on the beach, in the spring. Every bone in his body had been crushed, by the ice. THERE IS NO SAVING A PERSON, WHEN THEY GO UNDER THIS KIND OF ICE !!!!!! The ice is beautiful in this form, but it is deadly !!!!!!!! Use your common sense, stay off the ice.............
Agree.. there can be voids between the cakes... or loose cakes that give way under one's weight.
Worse when snow covers these.
Wow, kind of looks blue in some of the photos. Much better than alge green.
The ice looks blue because it's a lot more clear. Reason: After the lake ices over there is no more wave action to stir up sediment... instead the sediment falls to the bottom leaving the water clear. The longer the ice cover, the clearer the water.
When the ice breaks up, the water under is very clear. until it gets windy.
Sometimes, it's just worth it.
And another thing...
Took a drive over today...YES, very pretty. Soon Marblehead will be alive again!
