The first annual Fun Fest event was held at American Legion and supported the Perkins school levy.
Boy that was fun....NOT! Too many Kool-aid drinkers at this event. Even after hearing the BS today I'll still be voting NO!
I want to thank all the volunteers and businesses in the Perkins community for all their hard work to make this event a success. It was wonderful to see so many come together for the future of our children! Thank you Dr. Gunner for being there to answer questions so voters can make an educated informed decision.
The rest of the story: What a great day! There wasn't any kool-aid served but there was a lot of other things to drink. Despite the busy weekend, everyone that came had a good time (well except for Toolbox, why did you come Toolbox - if you really were there?) Thank you Dr. Gunner for rolling your sleeves up and helping us put this together. You have been a big help from the beginning and yes, you were there from early yesterday to late last night! It was fun, it was positive. It was supported by a phenomenal number of businesses and people that believe in our community. Anyway, it was a great community building event that we hope we can do bigger and better next year. Thanks to everyone that supported us and believe in Perkins. Toolbox, I respect your right to vote no. Please respect our right to believe in something we feel strong about. Your derogatory remarks about something that a lot of good people worked hard to do, is unbecoming. I would like to believe you are a bigger person than that, we will see. Again, it was our first year, it was a great event and it made me proud to be part of Perkins Township and schools.
I will only vote yes if Gunner quits and can't be rehired.
And yet more Gunner Games...
Could a tax increase supporter please explain how Gunner calculated the $730 per sport fee?
On the Q&A page on the Perkins Schools website, he provided a chart that shows $454,043 in athletic department costs. This is divided by the 622 student participants for a rate of $730 per student.
However, Gunner did not take into account the revenues that are generated by the athletic department. According to Mike Strohl's (Athletic Director) response on the Q&A forum, athletics generates revenue of $142,194. Plus $5,000 per season from the PABC.
This puts Perkins Athletics at a $296,849 annual operating loss (454,043-142,194-5,000-5,000-5,000). The $296k loss divided by the 622 participants shows a $477 fee per participant would cover the operating loss of the athletic department and also pay for the AD and assistant's salary.
Why then did Gunner and board choose to use the $730. Could it be that the $730 fee would likely have a much larger negative impact and cause more parents to vote yes to avoid the fee than a $477 fee? Nah, Gunner and Board don't use scare tactics like that!
