School board members approved about $2 million in cuts Wednesday night in the Perkins High School auditorium. Voters voiced their concerns.
Come join us! Sunday June 30th 7-8pm, at Perkins High School, Firelands Regional Medical Center Stadium for Rock-n-Register. Register to vote, learn about coming voting issues, and enjoy an evening of live performances by students and teachers! See you there!
Photo 6 is taken right from the Obama Administration. It's for the children.
These pictures remind me of the tool section at the hardware store. Vote no. It's for the kids.
What did the guy in the orange shirt have to say? He moved into the district a couple years ago. Just curious what such a new resident has to say about the schools.
The fellow in orange in photo 13 should be thinking about how he is going to maintain the residents roads, parks, cemetery and get leaves picked up now that the Highway Dept has been cut in half due to there over spending on there own complex.
Oh never mind that lets Pave, and landscape our new complex.
As a very concerned taxpayer, and mother of two in the district, I was very pleased with how the board meeting went tonight. Thank you to all of the citizens that asked questions, received answers, and showed support for our students! Keep the positive energy flowing. Good conquers evil. Stick together, stay informed, and support our future generation!
Oh those evil no voters. Comments like these are great for the no cause! Keep up the great work!
Stick together, stay informed, and SUPPORT OUR FUTURE GENERATION! PROUDLY VOTING YES!!!
This is really just what the Perkins School Board is after. Get lots of newspaper coverage, get an above average number of parents etc to the Board meeting. get those mouths flying about the cuts. One of the best "pass the levy" campaign tactics you can do. Its a classic tried and true way to drum up support right out of chapter one in "How to Pass a School Levy."
Alas get those parents all stirred up about the cuts and by gosh you will get those NO votes turned around to Yes votes and moms and dads will convince grandma, grandpa, aunt and uncle and the widow who lives next door all voting for the levy. Yep its crunch time and Perkins Board is in big time push cause August is a coming up fast.
I respect the thoughts of "Character Counts" BUT I know of people in this community who "proudly voting yes" and "support our future generation" does not get you a nickel of help in paying your taxes when that envelope comes from the Erie County Treasurer twice a year. You anc have all the pride and support of kids you want but its not worth a plum nickel at the bank helping you to pay your property taxes when you don't have the money. Reality is some people in this community do not have the money to pay the additional taxes and as devoted as Charater Counts is to kids they are driving people from home ownership and the community.
Then maybe they should move to Sandusky. But here's what they are going to find out. Their taxes will probably look worse because Perkins is paying the lowest MILAGE in the county, and close to the lowest in the state.
And yet, they spent all that money on turf that looks it was sewn together by a 7 year old. How sad.
Instead of renovating the old stadium, the board took that money and used it for the new stadium that then athletic boosters proposed. The rest of that money to make it look amazing was given by the public and fundraisers done by the athletic boosters.
If you have questions about this...ask...

You can't live a positive life with a negative mind....VOTE YES and SUPPORT PERKINS STUDENTS!
I agree. Why don't we ask the residents of Bryan Ohio School District why Gunner is no longer their superintendent. They drove him out of their district. Why do you think he's driving to Perkins daily? Also, Gasteier's position as Communication Director is a made up position so that he can retire with full benefits. I think the residents of Perkins should do their homework before they vote yes on this unnecessary levy. As I stated numerous times, Meadowlawn School runs just fine with one administrator. Why does Gunner insist on having two administrators at Briar School (the amount of students in both school are almost identical). Finn retired last year and was hired back by Gunner and the board at $77,000 and getting his retirement pension. A job reduction at Briar (Finn) could save two teaching positions or be used for something worthwhile. My taxes are almost $6,000 yearly and once again Gunner is still living in his hometown with no plan on moving to Perkins and paying taxes. I wonder what Gunner is paying in taxes? Also, why should we pay for someone elses children to play sports? My children are grown and we did our fair share. Why should I have to pay for someone else's child to play sports? My family have been lifelong members of this community and Perkins graduates. We have a strong bond in this community and it offends me that Gunner wants us to continue to pay more and more when his doesn't live or never will live in Perkins. Go back to where you came from GUNNER, we won't be sad to see you leave just like the residents of Bryan Ohio!
nice job (not!) ...cut and paste......
(yesshedid)Just making sure you didn't miss it. VOTE NO!!
Meadowlawn just gets by with one administrator because the teachers and guidance councilor pick up the extra work. When the administrator is gone, guess who has to deal with behavior problems, who deals with parents, who runs the building?
There are behavior problems in Perkins?????????? Nooooooooooo. That's impossible.
I went to the meeting to get informed. I hope others do as well and don't just post on here. I don't like Gunner or some of the Board members or some of the directions they have taken the school, but I left the meeting with a different opinion then what I came in with. BooBeeDoo the answer to your question about why you should pay for someone else's kids sports is because someone else did so your kids could play when they were in school. Also I am not retired, why am I paying Social Security and Medicare- because I get value in the future. The numbers that stood out for me at the meeting- Perkins SD has the lowest millage of any school in Erie County, They are roughly 7 mills behind the next lowest school, A levy has not passed in 13 years. Costs have gone up- some because of Board decisions(I still have an issue with the millage move- but what is done is done), others not their fault. The county property tax values have gone down as well. State funding has been reduced. The school has been running at a deficit for roughly 7 years. In roughly 2 years the school will be in a fiscal emergency and the State will come in. Do I want to pay more taxes- no I don't, but after getting the numbers last night, and understanding some of the facts, I will vote yes. Not as a support of the administration- I will vote for new board members in November. My yes vote will be for the community. This vote is important, do we think about ourselves or do we think about the community as a whole and create future value in the community. All I ask is people do research and be informed. You might find the facts are different than your perception, like I did. The fact is we have not paid more for the schools in 13 years...
When is gunner and the rest of his crew going to take cutbacks themselves... way overpaid
Actually the administration takes a cut a year before the teachers have to.
