People dress up as their favorite comic book, tv show, video game or web comic characters at Kalahari Water Park Resort.
Really? Adults do this?
Freakin' Halloween isn't until October.
These kinds of conventions happen all year long all across this country and others. They are dressed as their favorite anime, manga, video game, or other pop culture characters as a fun way to express their support and appreciation of the media. Not only are they extremely fun for the participants and a way for them to show off tremendous creativity (many costumes are hand-made) but for vendors it is an excellent business opportunity.
While no event is without problems, these types of conventions are generally less stressful as what is being celebrated is the social connectivity and creativity and less the drunkards or druggies. I hope this clears some of your questions or stigmas up about what goes on at this and other anime conventions. Feel free to reply if you have any more questions.
Ah, some folks will never understand the appeal of making you're own outfit, or just cutting loose for a little while. Most folks around here's idea of a good time it seems, is getting wasted, and acting foolish. Wish i could have made the Con this year myself.
I have no more questions, HZ. Thanx for the info.
Also, to each their own.
Well said, Hero. I had a blast covering the event this year. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. I was hoping to spread some information about what exactly anime conventions are by writing a story, because many people just simply don't understand it.
If you need a collaborator for the story let me know, bloggers unite! I can promise you I am well-steeped in these as guest, panelist, vendor, and staffer.
My son went all four days and had a blast. The one thing he kept telling me was how nice everyone was. People asked him to pose for pictures, invited him to play video games, and were just a really fun group.
I am glad to hear, that is exactly how it should have been. All if not most of these conventions are fan-made and driven. I can't think of one off hand that is effectively "corporate owned" or somehow detached from the fan base, which makes them very...uh...human? Close-knit, perhaps? All the same it is meant to be live interaction with others to appreciate something that perhaps not many in your area do.
People dress up . sort of like bike week, only thinner and younger.
dress up , be something you are not, but looks alot funner.
Excuse him a biker slapped him! lmao
Hi pops.. those silly bikers do like to slap..limp wrists and all. silly nannys
