Police Blotter
Local police respond every day to heated and unusual situations. The following is one item pulled from the daily police blotter. SANDUSKY POLICE SATURDAY, JULY 7 7:54 p.m. - 2200 block River Ave., man let dog out, dog got into fight with sick raccoon, man shot raccoon twice with .22 caliber rifle, police informed man it was illegal to fire weapon in city limits, forwarded report to prosecutor. ok a sick racoon most likely is rabies  and is a DANGER to all people and all animals. it is a public service as far as i see to put it out of its misery....

question,  if i shoot someone breaking into my house in sandusky, to protect my family, does it go to the prosecutor ????  does the city limit gun law send me to jail?

This man kills a sick racoon by shooting it and the info is forwarded to the prosecutor?

He could have called the police and by the time they arrived the racoon would be gone to possibly tussle with another family pet

OR

He could have called the police only to have the police shoot the racoon.  Why can the police shoot an animal to take it out of it's misery, but it's wrong for a resident to do so?
