9th District candidates clash during Sandusky stop
Feb 05
2012
A political rookie seeking membership in Congress blasted a pair of Democratic incumbents for overseeing reckless spending and soaring poverty rates.
All three Democratic 9th District Congressional candidates attended a NAACP-sponsored forum Saturday morning at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Sandusky
Candidate Graham Veysey, who's considered the long shot to win March's primary, attacked U.S. reps Marcy Kaptur (D-Toledo) and Dennis Kucinich (D-Cleveland) throughout the hour-long discussion.
The two longtime incumbents were squeezed into the same district -- which stretches from Cleveland to Toledo and hugs Lake Erie -- when Republicans redrew congressional boundaries in late 2011.
Kaptur and Kucinich helped amass this country's debt and must share the blame for this mess, Veysey said.
"We got a $15 trillion debt and it's going to be $26 trillion in 10 years," Veysey said. "You look at the folks I'm running against and they have 70 years combined as politicians. Now it's time for fresh ideas and a fresh face."
Debate
What: The Register will host a Democratic-only candidate debate. Confirmed to attend include all three Democratic candidates including Marcy Kaptur (D-Toledo), Dennis Kucinich (D-Cleveland), and Graham Veysey.
When: 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Where: BGSU Firelands at the Cedar Point Center. BGSU Firelands is located off Rye Beach Road and nearby Ohio 2.
More: There will be an audience participation portion during the second half of the debate with rapid-fire and rapid-response questions for the candidates.
The Sandusky Transit System will also provide transportation to the debate form Sandusky.
There won't be a Register-sponsored debate for the 9th District Republican primary. While candidate Steve Kraus confirmed he'd attend, Samuel Wurzelbacher never returned messages to attend.

As a former strong supporter and campaign worker for Congressman Dennis
Kucinich I must state why I am no longer supporting him and why I am
supporting Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur.
I worked on the 1994 Kucinich State Senate campaign against Anthony Sinagra
and the 1996 Kucinich Congressional campaign against Martin Hoke. During
those campaigns I came to know Dennis quite well. I had just completed a
run for Cleveland City council in Slavic Village and wanted to continue in
politics. In fact, I still hold the record for most yard signs placed
during a State Senate campaign.
What concerned me then and concerns me now is why Kucinich failed as Mayor
of Cleveland and still fails to succeed as a Congressman. The only common
denominator is his lack of people skills. He does not now {nor did he then}
have the critical ability to communicate properly with constituents, fellow
lawmakers and the media in general. Some politicians are able to "re-make"
themselves. Sadly, Kucinich has chosen not to and look what this has
resulted in for the previous 10th Congressional District.
On the other hand, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur reminds me of the type of
congressperson we desperately need during these troubling economic times.
She truly cares about her constituents. From the moment you meet her you
can't help but be struck by her well-honed people skills. She has
utilized these skills very effectively and look at the difference it has
made in Toledo and the surrounding area. On Tuesday, March 6, please
support Marcy Kaptur for Congress and help give the new 9th Congressional
district a start on the right track.

P.S. Ron Paul as vice-president is very likely, actually.. in fact, it is the best option if the republican party wants to avoid division among their voters.. Paul has already arranged with Romney and the others to have a presence, including at the republican convention/s, even if he does not win the nomination for the republican presidential candidate.. speaking slots, etc and it has been granted.. also note, that most Republicans and Democrats agree on many of Paul's policies but not all..

@coasterfan uh, yah.. FINALLY starting to pull the troops out of Iraq is not much credit to Obama when he is about to turn right around and send them into a much larger war in Iran (not to mention the wars in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, etc)
pls explain to me how spending us into oblivion (which is causing us to print more money out of thin air from the Federal Reserve, thereby further decreasing the value of the dollar in the world market) is "getting better"?.. at this rate, the dollar will crash during the Iran war, and thereby the economy collapses..
but i guess you figure Obama will usher in some new and improved American version of communism, and it will be some great and wonderful thing.. you are dreaming.. rather, private corporations will move in and offer the only realistic alternative (and just remember, that private corporations do not have a congress, or any forum for the people to have a voice.. they answer to themselves, not the people).. if our gov't became crippled, then a corporatist state (likely based on a "credits" system) would likely ensue (and a number of ppl are concerned about the risk of it becoming fascist)..
if Obama gets re-elected, he is already projected to add another 3.2 trillion to the debt at the very least (on top of the 5 trillion he has already added in his first 3 years).. and THEN to begin the war in Iran, on top of that.. so, do the math.. (and if you think Obama will suffer one bit if these things happen, you are fooling yourself.. he might be offered a very comfy seat in the corporatist state, assuming they want him which isn't likely.. but if not, he could just move to Kenya and probably be welcomed as it's new king or president or whatever)
we need to put pressure on the republican party to either nominate Ron Paul, or to make sure he gets in as the vice-presidential nominee at the verrry least..

Not sure why it would be important for a politician to have had a job in the private sector. They're politicians, and what IS important is that they have had jobs/experience in the political arena. Why people think it's ok for someone like Joe the Plumber to be politician when he has no political experience, yet question the qualifications of a politician who DOES have political experience, is beyond me.
To me, HOPE meant that, with a new party in office, things finally have the chance to get better. The fact is, that things were getting continually worse the longer Bush was in office, and that most things are gradually getting better with Obama in the office. We still have a ways to go, but Obama still represents the best chance of fixing the problem. Am not sure how GOP mavens got the idea that Obama said he was going to fix everything instantly. If you listen to things he said at the time, his line was always "it's going to take time to fix the problems I inherited".
CHANGE definitely happened. Look no further than the long list of things Obama accomplished (which Republicans continue to gripe about) for evidence of that. It's precisely the fact that he did change so many things that the GOP's mantra is "nominate anyone who will beat Obama". Good luck with that. :)

Kucinich came from a poor family. he worked jobs outside of public office. his life was threatened because he refused to go along with corrupt big business. http://kucinich.house.gov/Biography/ Kucinich has held many jobs outside of politics including being a hospital orderly, newspaper copy boy, teacher, consultant, television analyst and author.

This is great...We have a young democrat politician who has never had a real job in the private sector, wanting to take the job away from two old democrat politicians, both of whom have never had real jobs in the private sector. In other words, this young democrat wants to get rich off the government the same way these two old democrats already have. Amazing!

Bring back the question...are you better off than you were four years ago? I know I'm not. The Democrats' "Hope and Change" didn't have any substance then and still doesn't. Both Kaptur and Kucinich were members of the Congress that controlled the House and Senate, so neither one will get my vote. They don't have a clue what the average citizen is going through.

@ Taxpayer...actually the Hope and Change that Obama brought is working out just fine for me and the country. Can you imagine how bad things would be if we had given another 4 years to the GOP leadership that got our country into the recession. The recovery that's happening (thanks to the Democrats) is moving slowly but surely, at exactly the speed economic experts predicted.
Man 4451 shows his utter cluelessness by stating that Marcy K has "done nothing". If she hasn't done anything, perhaps he can explain why Republicans have been complaining about her for years.
Q: What were Taxpayer and Man 4451's favorite 3 years in school?
A: Second grade.

Blatant hole in the photo between Steve Kraus and Graham Veysey. Reserved for Joe the Plumber who didn't show up. Don't forget folks, he says he's running on "name recognition", therefore he doesn't need to debate Steve Kraus. In other words, he's insulting YOUR intelligence by taking YOUR vote for granted. He doesn't need to show up to discuss things that are important to our community because you will blindly vote for him anyway, as he has "name recognition". Steve has been busting butt with little to no media coverage. Joe gets national news coverage because he was a tool, and is traveling well out of our district (which he doesn't even live in, but is legal to run for office in) and state to raise money for his campaign...oh, and his living expenses. DISLIKE!

If Marcy was really worth the taxpayer-subsidized paycheck she's been collecting for decades, Toledo would not be the hopeless, desolate hole that it is today, with an Independent mayor leading the charge to rebuild and rejuvenate NW Ohio. If Dennis was worth it, he wouldn't have spend so much time in Hawai'i, UFO-hunting with celebrities, traversing the nation on hopeless presidential runs, or sniffing around Washington state to look for a new district to rule because he didn't think he'd get his way here at home. Rather, he would have been leading the charge to get Cleveland out of its economic hole, rather than let enterprising Clevelanders do the heaviest lifting all themselves (at least Toledo's mayor pitches into his city's efforts). Veysey is worth a look, but will in the same breath need to be watched so that he doesn't become part of NEO's political machine.
The choice is clear, if painful for some: vote Republican.

I don't think you have checked the records very closely or you would know something very different that what you are posting.
Kucinich scares me. He is NOT the candidate who will do what he says. Look at his record all the way back to Cleveland.
I do know know of Veysey. I won't say anything about him one way or the other.

If Veysey is TRUE to his word and he is NOT a typical, liberal "flip-flopper" like RINO John McCain (R-AZ) and RINO Lindsey Graham (R-SC) then I might switch parties and vote for him. Anyone can jump on the "throw the bums out" wagon because it is so popular. We shall see. Most incumbents want another term for doing the exact same FAILURE they are doing now. Sounds exactly like a liberal, democrack county commissioner who feels he DESERVES another term. Like I posted before, "More money for more FAILURE!" If someone NEW is voted into the huge, new 9th Congressional District and they become another Kucinich or Kaptur, voters can give them the BOOT instead of falling in blind, lockstep love with someone they think will SAVE them. You know, like all the miserable, two-bit, liberal, democracks and members of the freeloaders club of entitlements who voted for an unknown "messiah" to SAVE them?? How is that "hope and change" and "yes, we can" working out for YOU? FOUR MORE YEARS! Ha! Ha!

If Anyone THINKS this government by cutting SPENDING is gonna give YOU/us our MONEY back, your CRAZY as a 3dollar bill. They will just spend it else where. THE last time this government gave us money back and NOT spend it else where was Veitnam War. Hundreds of Military bases closed, they kept the money, S&L scandle, White Water scandle, they kept that $ also, FREE medical Dental for CONGRESS and most all union governments that S*CK from the TAX payer BACK, this list just goes ON and ON. SO by blasting what is NOT controlable better think twice.
