Doris Eleanor (Camp) Bonnigson, 88, of Clyde, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at home.
Doris was born Nov. 22, 1923, in Cleveland to Clinton and Lucinda Camp. She graduated from Towsend School near Collins in 1941.
In her younger years she worked in Norwalk as a seamstress at Tabor's Department Store, a cashier at A&P Grocery and a bookkeeper at The Service Garage.
She married Henry L. Bonnigson Feb. 7, 1948, in Norwalk. She is survived by her husband, seven children, 17 grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Clyde and Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament Division 11. She once served as president of the Rosary and Altar Society and often volunteered at church and school.
She enjoyed her family, sewing, quilting, baking, playing piano and writing letters to friends and relatives all over the country.
She was a 4-H leader for the Streamline Stitchers and Clyde Clovers 4-H clubs and also served as Green Creek Township clerk and worked at Clyde Motorland.
As a member of the Northern Ohio Draft Pony Association she received the Lifetime Achievement Award with her husband Henry. She supported many pony shows, fairs and sports activities with her family.
She and her husband enjoyed many trips to the Amish country over the years and enjoyed showing friends and relatives interesting places on their jaunts. Often they were invited into their homes, and Doris befriended several Amish ladies and corresponded with them through letters and cards.
Doris enjoyed Cousins Luncheon each month, and each year she enjoyed a Girls Day outing with family to celebrate her birthday.
She is survived by her sisters, Virginia (Thomas) Rich of Fremont; Agnes (Phillip) LaPlante of Oregon, Ohio, and Carol (Herb) Foos of Fremont; children, Joann (Joe) Frisch of Catawba Island, Karl (Patricia) Bonnigson of Fremont, Keith (Jaime Drossman) Bonnigson of Bellevue, Jeanne (Ken) Mathias of Burgoon, Kenneth (Jen) Bonnigson of Clyde, Grace (Chris) Leichty of Green Springs and Mary (Tim) Myers of Fremont; amd several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde. The Christian Wake service will be at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 609 Vine St., Clyde, with the Rev. Joseph Steinbauer officiating. Burial will be in Bakertown Cemetery.
