William "Whitey" H. Gent, 80, of Green Springs, passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, at Elmwood Healthcare Center at the Springs in Green Springs. He was born March 31, 1931, in Middlesboro, Ky., the son of Fred and Gladys (Ayers) Gent.
Whitey served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He married Betty West on March 23, 1951, in Noetown, Ky., and she survives.
Whitey worked in the Plastics Department at Ford Motor Co. for 44 years and retired in 1996. He was a member of New Hope Vineyard Church in Fremont, the Ohio State Athletic Association and Fremont Athletic Association. He loved to play and coach softball. He also loved golfing, bowling and hunting.
Whitey is survived by his wife, Betty Gent, Green Springs; children, William M. Gent of Bowling Green, Ohio, Gail (John) Partin of Handford, Calif., Barb (Al) Darr of Republic, Ohio, Ruth Gen of, Green Springs, Charles (Michelle) Gent of Lemoore, Calif.; his twin brother, Herman, as well as four other brothers; two sisters; grandchildren, Melinda, Amanda, Amber, Lindsay, Ashley, Clint, Joni, Andrew and Leann; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 210 N. Broadway St., Green Springs.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Gippert officiating.
