County wants U.S. 250 safety upgrades near Maui Sands

With Maui Sands under new ownership, Erie County is pushing ahead on a U.S. 250 project that would improve safety for motorists in that area.
But county officials have a lot of pushing to do.
So far, only the design work has been funded.
The county expects to receive a preliminary engineering report from a consultant by March 1. A portion of the plan calls for a new traffic signal on U.S. 250 at Maui Sands, said Christine Myers, an Ohio Department of Transportation spokeswoman.
Any major construction work, however, isn't expected to start until 2015.
Maui Sands has been closed for years, but the new owner is hoping to soon change that.
Last month, MKSP LLC of Maryland completed its purchase of Maui Sands.
The company's president, Kiritsinh "Kirit" Parmar, said Wednesday he'd like to see improvements at the intersection leading into Maui Sands.
"If people are working on it, that's good," he said. "There's nothing concrete we've seen as far as what's going to happen and when."
The county, meanwhile, has made little progress on a special tax plan that was designed to fund road improvements benefiting Maui Sands. Such tax districts are common -- they divert property tax money to road projects for a period of time.
County officials are also lobbying to obtain funds from Ohio's Transportation Review Advisory Council, which doles out big bucks for projects that promote economic development and improve safety for Ohioans.
The county's planners think the U.S. 250 roadwork accomplishes both goals.

My wife and I agree, there is NOTHING along that stretch of idiocy called Rt. 250 worth the stress and risk to life, limb or property for us to venture there, especially during the summer months. Access roads might help, but Cedar Point traffic will still clog the road during the "Season".

Oh, for crying out loud, isn't there enough of a snarl there now???? You don't have to worry about it. There is already a light and an access to the other businesses behind the shell station. Use that. It was good enough before, why complicate things.
I swear, every time something new comes up, someone has to make things around here more complicated than it needs to be. Why is that? If it isn't broken, don't fix it.

Build an access road behind, and take the traffic west, then north, and out at the existing traffic light??

new traffic signal on U.S. 250 at Maui Sands. wait until cedar point opens and the traffic jams will become worse with another light. the access road idea should work.

Why aren't there inner roads all along 250 in front of the businesses like what they started in front of Wendys?. The whole road is a mess with all kinds of cut ins and lights. It just wasn't very well planned.

Just what is needed ANOTHER stop light!!!!! Someone should have thought that whole area out a bit better way back when. It should have an access road that ALL the businesses use with ONLY one enter/exit at ONE light. I try to avoid this area at ALL costs. Even in the winter. I NEVER go out there during "the season". I can find those stores in other areas and do not waste my time or stress.
