Rose A. Mazza, 92, of Sandusky, passed away late Monday afternoon, Jan. 2, 2012, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.
She was born Oct. 1, 1919, in the Republic of San Marino, Italy, daughter of the late John and Gina (Simoncini) Muratori. At age 16 she moved to the United States, where she later became a U.S. citizen. Rose worked for New Departure-Hyatt (Division of General Motors) for 30 years, retiring in 1980. She enjoyed cooking and baking, but especially loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and after retiring she volunteered in the school cafeteria. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Italian-American Beneficial Club.
She is survived by a son, Donald J. (Sylvia) Mazza of Huron; two daughters, Donna J. (Paul) Dalferro of Castalia and Gloria J. Miller of Sandusky; seven grandchildren, Jennifer and Joseph Mazza, John (Valerie) Dalferro, Gina Marie (Plinio) Montalvan, Brian (Erica) Miller, Brad Miller, Scott (Lisa) Miller; great-grandson, Preston S. Miller; nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Mary Mazza of Sandusky.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer P. Mazza (Feb. 10, 1988); and a son in infancy, Donald J. Mazza (1943).
Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at David F. Koch Funeral Home, 520 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, where a liturgical service will begin at 4 p.m. Prayers will be recited at 9:40 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Fr. Marty Nassr will officiate.
At her request, cremation will take place following the services. Interment will take place later in St. Joseph Cemetery, Sandusky.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Stein Hospice Service Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870; or to Providence Care Center, Sandusky.
