A man was charged with felony drug trafficking Wednesday after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers found $400,000 worth of cocaine in his truck during an Erie County traffic stop.

Erric D. Phillips, 40, of the 4900 block of N. Sedgewick Road in Lyndhurst, was also charged with felony drug possession.

Troopers pulled over a 2003 Ford F150 for speeding at about 6:15 p.m. on a stretch of Ohio Turnpike in Parkertown, a small Erie County community just south of Castalia and northeast of Bellevue.

Troopers said they observed “criminal indicators” and a police dog alerted them to possible drugs in the pickup. A search of the vehicle uncovered 4 kilos of cocaine.

Phillips, the driver, was arrested and booked into the Erie County jail at about 11 p.m.

Both charges are first-degree felonies. If convicted, Phillips faces up to 20 years in prison and a $40,000 fine.

He’s being held in jail without bond and is scheduled to appear in Erie County Municipal Court at 8:30 a.m. Friday.

Amazing! That dog deserves all the glory. If you know you have drugs in your car you don't speed and keep the risk of getting a traffic stop at the minimum, I guess this particular drug dealer didn't see things this way. Cocaine is expensive, I know this from experience, that's why being a cocaine dealer is such a lucrative business.  I only have bad memories with this drug, I was a user but then I realized that this is pure suicidal instead of recreation so I searched for support in a California drug rehabilitation, I am clean for three years now.

In Tennessee the same trooper picked up the same Illegal 3 weeks apart on the same stretch of  Highway 40 west of Memphis.  He was deported the first time and came right back.  I heard the story on 700 AM--Cinn.  The DEA probably didn't care to deal with an Illegal so they let another 400,000 leave our Country Illegally and picked this guy up for what   67 in a 65?????  Interesting to know what this guys occupation would be or if He has ever worked?

Anyways, the cops made a good stop this time even if it was for a burned out bulb which they are trained to notice.  Maybe they can recognize a person who is "burned-out" I sometimes can.

A criminal indicator would be the driver acting nervous, which he probably was. Police are trained to detect these things.

I've been pulled over for the old "dim license plate lightbulb scam" before, except both mine worked- the inside of the bulb cover was just browned from use. I guess the tanning of clear plastic bulb covers (BOTH in working order) is no excuse & should be dealt with harshly & severely. Besides, I thought cop cars were equip with stuff that they don't even have to call it in any more? Another good excuse I was pulled over for once: "Your vehicle smelled like gasoline when you drove by me". A round of applause to PPD's finest.

By the Bay, corruption is just a meow away!

Well I hope he gets all that time and more .Anyone that deals in drugs as far as I am concerned should get the death penalty .Now I know a lot of you bleeding hearts out there are going to agree with me on this , but you know i am tired of reading about the crackheads and there dealers that are selling the crap to children and in some cases costing them their lives , so as far as i am concered they decerve the same thing DEATH .Not to mention the users that rob and cheat and steal from hard working people dont decerve any pitty , and I am not sorry abbout what i say on here cause its the cold hard truth , that something has to be done to stop this from going on .

And to the state troopers that were on there toes and did there job , my hat goes of to all of you and my prayers is that you can keep up the good works

Three decades of growth in America's prison population has quietly nudged the nation across a sobering threshold: for the first time, more than one in every 100 adults is now confined in an American jail or prison. According to figures gathered and analyzed by the Pew Public Safety Performance Project, the number of people behind bars in the United States continued to climb in 2007, saddling cash-strapped states with soaring costs they can ill afford and failing to have a clear impact either on recidivism or overall crime. Now there is one more idiot to add to the prison population. More than likely,he was going to turn all that coke into crack.

OSP are some bad mother.......WATCH YOUR MOUTH  !!!          good job fellas!!!!!!!!!!

One kilo of 90% cocaine goes for $100,000 a kee.  Where are YOU guys getting your values from?  A few of you must be using 0bama economics.  Ha! Ha!  If it has not been stepped on or cut, then it might be worth even MORE.  You might want to consider the United States DEBT, government forecast for job growth, inflation, and cost of living in your calculations.  Because the PEOPLE are tapped out from having "skin in the game" or "sacrificing" anymore, the value of this tax free commodity has increased.  The formulary is based on $100 per gram = 1,000 grams in a kilo = $100K.  You also need to calculate the RISK involved in assessing an illegal schedule II alkaloid (salt).  I say excellent job Ohio State Patrol!  The OSP is really the Ohio State Police on the Turnpike.  They have full police powers only on the "Pike" and have obviously performed an outstanding narcotics interdiction.

Street value is actually anywhere between $24000 and $40000, depending on the market. Like anything, if the market is saturated and coke is easy to come by, then the price would be lower... it would also depend on how you planned on selling it... if you broke it down and sold it by the ball then you're looking at a lot more cash, but the risk is much greater. Because you're now holding onto it to try and make the max amount of money off it, but you run the risk of slipping up and having the law slap you in the face, but all in all, nit picking aside, im glad this Ahole was caught, he deserves more than 20 years, for all the lives that he would ruin in the prosses, all the families that were torn apart for a few dollars! Rediculus and good riddence!

Good job Officer Doggie!

Drug laws reduce abuse and the medical costs associated with abuse.  Legalization would do the opposite. Other nations have learned that liberalizing drug policies only leads to more addicts and unacceptable social consequences.

As with slavery in early America, killing Jews in Nazi Germany, or killing babies in America today -- just because something is legal does not make it right.

I told the cop why not go chase some real crooks----start with the attorneys and the judges. To my surprise he laughed and said you got that right!

No cash?  So this guy just lost $400K of blow and is in jail?  He either lost his own money or the money of another fine pillar of society involved in criminal enterprise.  The patrol could begin seizure procedings for the vehicle and any cash, but the narcotics will be destroyed.  If this "investment in America" belongs to someone else, Mr. Phillips might want to consider looking over his shoulder for the rest of his LIFE!

It's a good idea to speed when you're transporting narcotics.  Also, don't wear a seatbelt and if you get a chance, give a highway patrolman the finger.  Heaven forbid you blend in with 400k worth of blow in your car.

By the way, who snorts cocaine anymore?  What year is this, 1986?
