Dead voters wiped from databases

Long after they're gone, some voters still haunt local election boards.

Some cast ballots from the grave when a dishonest voter swipes their identity.

The so-called dead voters raise concerns about fraud and drain government resources.

Then there's the sting surviving relatives feel when they go to vote and see their loved one's name still there, next to their own.

Just before the election, county officials said a final farewell to tens of thousands of dead voters, wiping them from their databases.

Secretary of State Jon Husted recently released a report comparing records of deceased Ohioans from the Ohio Department of Health with the records of active voters, flagging 18,460 who could be casting ballots from the grave.

If this is really a big issue, how about those republican employees sitting at the computers at the BOE read the obituaries in the SR, get into the voter data and flag that voter.

Or perhaps use the Ohio Department of Health death index? What happened to my earlier comment that I posted this morning?

This smoke screen takes advantage of the fact the Annie and most of the people reading this article have no idea how the system works and WHO is the system.

If this is really a big issue, how about those republican employees sitting at the computers at the BOE read the obituaries in the SR, get into the voter data and flag that voter. Not all that hard to do, if you want to solve the issue.

Half of the 216'ers on the BOE were/are republicans.

If it was such a big issue why didn't they address it at the meetings?

Like I said, computers have made purging the dead voters, an easy task.

If it is not done, then the republicans are half the problem.

Husted has raised this issue only because the republicans want to make it so complicated for older voters and poor voters that they give up trying to vote.

It is just another smoke screen to hide the real agenda.

Two years ago, another 5 On Your Side investigation exposed 13,000 dead voters registered in Cuyahoga County. More than two dozen of them cast ballots.

Back then, NewsChannel5 was told dead voters would be removed from the rolls.

Now, on the eve of an historic election — when every vote in Cuyahoga County is considered crucial — our NewsChannel5 investigation has once again uncovered thousands of dead voters still on the rolls, and ballots still being cast from beyond.

Ever since the govt. trust busters got into the business of deciding which corps. they would help and which one's they were gonna #$%^ over, certain industries have needed to protect themselves.

Here's my point about who gets to decide:

I just heard today that the Sec. Service is buying two armored buses for the Dem and Repub presidential candidates. Should one be provided to each of the candidates from the minor political parties as well? If not, why not?

Regardless, the country's on an austerity kick and there ain't no way taxpayers want another welfare program goin' to the members of the political ruling class.

And there's no guarantee that the candidate who spends the most money wins anyway.

The fact that dead voters were still on the list is not new.

Years ago the lists were only purged every five years, if then.

I was around to see local boards go to computer records, before that everything was paper and pen.

The computer made this issue easy to deal with and if the local board of elections chooses to they could purge the list weekly.

Don't forget that those boards are bipartisan.

This is just a political stunt on Husted’s part.

I was asking who gets to decide how the spoils are divvied up, not if you were a commie or a nazi.

Would the commies and the nazis get equal amounts of campaign cash as do the Repubs and the Dems?

Recently read an article that said that incumbents tend to warn contributors not to donate to their opponents or face later retribution.

Know this: The country has been messing with trying to make campaigns fair since the early 20th century and all it’s done is make them increasingly expensive.

In 2008, I held my nose and voted for Repub turned Libertarian Barr. Yrs. ago I used to be a member of and worked and contributed to the Libertarian Party.

The Supreme Court basically said that campaign money is a form of free speech – I’m OK with that. I don’t want the @#$% govt. deciding who gets what and how many $ each receives.

Do you really want to prevent people like Perot or Trump wasting their own personal money?

The campaign laws are so #$%^ up now, that it’s mostly only the wealthy that run. Total public financing of campaigns would only @#$% it up more.

Ain’t gonna happen.

Hey Smith;  It works both ways and you know that!   Personally, I don't contribute monetarily to election/campaign funds.  Made a conscious choice to stop doing that over 20 yrs. ago.   What they'll get is my vote, but they have to earn it first!  By the way, didn't vote Obama or McCain, they didn't earn my vote,  and am certainly not a member of the U.S. Communist Party, let alone the American Nazi Party.  It would be quite interesting though to see in print who their  funding comes from, as well as allowing full disclosure of all  corporate $$$$'s spent on elections.  All that laundered front-money makes for some hellacious campaign ads at election time!

Not holding my breath sir, only holding onto hope.  See, I'm an American first and foremost.  Politcal affiliation doesn't rule over that.  We can see where that's taken us as a Nation.

And will the candidates of the U.S. Communist Party and The American Nazi Party receive equal public campaign funds as the Dems and the Repubs?

Will the Dems and the ACLU now be screaming about the loss of the deceased’s voting rights?
