An animal rights group says it's pleased that Ohio's livestock care board has reversed an earlier vote on the size of cages for veal calves.
The Humane Society of the United States had been threatening to revive a ballot issue against animal cruelty after the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board voted to allow veal calves to be kept in crates too small for them to turn around.
The board reversed its course on Tuesday and decided to allow the larger crates. The rule still faces one more vote and a hearing before it can take effect.
The Humane Society complained that the earlier vote jeopardized an agreement reached with former Gov. Ted Strickland last year that led them to give up a ballot campaign.

I feel that treating these animals that we eat with care and respect is the least we can do . They are keeping us alive as well, and we should do what we can to make their short lives as comfortable as can be . Besides it can only make for a healthier animal thus a better food product .

The inhumanity shown to all feed animals is getting worse with each new mega farm. We see recalls on a weekly basis due to salmonella, bubonic plague, mad cow disease, etc, etc. We who have an open heart hear the cries of the animals as they are cruelly slaughtered, often times after torture. No, no, just thinkin, if you don't watch out, you won't be able to afford to eat. And your city commissioner won't be able to afford her porterhouse steaks even with the big public union salary!

Black mail works every time, What a waste of my tax money First have to pay for the Board and now let outside thugs tell it what to do, SHAME ON THEM. Hey what about all the dogs in 8X10 kennels , or the cats locked in a house thier whole life, Hamster's gerbils,poor fish in thier tanks, Lobster's at the store's, come on lets not stop at Veal Calfs, How about the casteration of poor male offspring of cattle,sheep,pigs, or the hooking of minnows and worms, or mass producing our food in pens,pastures etc ?.Well same logic where are the goody two shoes? Lets remove the animals from those pens,pastures barns and raise the price of food production to record highs. Then maybe everyone will be Happy and then the perfect world can move on to the next issue
