EHOVE seeks levy
MILAN TWP.

EHOVE is asking for a replacement of a 1.5-mill levy.

This is the first time they’ve asked for a levy, other than renewals, since 1986.

Enrollment is increasing at EHOVE — both for high school students and adult education classes.

Read all about the proposed levy in Tuesday's Register.

I hate to tell you this, but many, if not most, of EHOVE high school students go to college after graduation.  Very few of them anymore go just to learn a trade and then work at that right after high school.  Many of EHOVE's current programs for high schoolers are designed with college in mind.  For the life of me, I do not understand how EHOVE always gets a free pass when it comes to getting levies passed, but the regular school districts have to often fight tooth and nail.  I am not saying that people shouldn't support it, but rather I think the public needs more info as to why this increase is necessary, the salaries of the administration, etc.  Don't just support it because you think the world needs more hairdressers (which is certainly not true in this area).

If this money is used to teach kids a trade I'm all for it. Working for a living with marketable skills is better than the alternative which is unemployment and living on the government entitlements. The world needs welders, hairstylists and automotive repair. We don't need anymore college graduates with degrees in history, philosophy and marketing who feel the world owes them a job because they are college graduates.

Does anyone know anything about the older gentleman who was hit by a car on 250 this afternoon? He was riding a bike. I pray he will live, I hear it was terrible. I know someone who witnessed it. Register? Any word? It was 250 & Bogart Rd. Keep him in your prayers.

I agree that EHOVE has traditionally provided excellent programs for students interested in learning a trade.  But things have changed.  I want to know, how does the teacher's pay scale compare to the other districts and comparable jvs schools?  What are their benefits like?  How many of the EHOVE graduates go on to college?  What are the eligibility criteria to attend EHOVE?  Sorry but I'm not summarily voting yes on this one this time.  I want to know that the increase is absolutely necessary.

EHOVE has earned a good name, they're doing something right.  Is that a typo?  They're asking 1.5-mill or is that 15.0 mill?  This is one I think we can handle.

EHOVE has proven its value to the community. Not everyone is wired to go to college. Learning a trade is a value to students who follow another path. You have my support.
