After Lonz, officials honed island emergency response

As emergency crews tended to dozens of injured victims of the Lonz Winery terrace collapse, they made use of everything available that fateful day.
They unhinged doors to use as backboards. They ripped T-shirts into bandages. They splinted broken ribs with scraps of wood and tape.
That was then. A decade later, emergency management officials say they’ve learned the lessons of Lonz and are better prepared, supplied and coordinated.
