Where are the snow fences?
Erie County engineer Jack Farschman provided the following response:
We routinely every year starting around Thanksgiving, as a matter of fact, erect snow fences throughout Erie County along our county roadways in areas. We know from past experience they will be effective. That being said, weather patterns are rather unpredictable and as such, other unprotected areas occasionally surface. I'd appreciate knowing exactly where, along Bogart Road the person has reference to. Additionally, when installed, is has proven to be most effective further back off our right-of-way which requires us to get permission from the property owner, and lots of them simply don't want to accommodate the request due to when they till and plant.
As to any stretch along a state highway in Erie County, I suggest ODOT District #3 can answer the question (Call 1-800-276-4188). The county has no jurisdiction over those highways. And finally, it's really not a matter of cost so much as it is one of keeping our roadways as safe as we can through the winter months. We simply do what we can, where we can.
