Will WindSeeker work this year?

With all the excitement surrounding Gatekeeper at Cedar Point this summer, I'm wondering if workers have resolved the issues causing them to close down WindSeeker last season? Steve in Sandusky.

Register reporter Melissa Topey recently wrote about the issue, appearing in Saturday's Register.

The 300-foot, swing-like ride should be operational in 2013, Cedar Point spokesman Bryan Edwards said.

Edwards said the company worked with a designer to create a new evacuation system in case riders get stuck yet again. In June, the ride malfunctioned stranding 29 riders in their swings about 150 feet high for a prolonged amount of time. High winds caused the ride to break down.

As a safety precaution, executives in September shut down WindSeeker and five other similar rides throughout Cedar Fair's North American properties.

Speaking of Gatekeeper, the new winged roller coaster spanning nearly 4,200 feet is also set to debut this May.

The Mailbag is a daily feature on SanduskyRegister.com. Every weekday at noon, we will post one question-and-answer from a resident. To ask a question, send a letter to The Mailbag at 314 W. If I'm not mistaken, the Windseeker at Knott's Berry Farm is already in operation as of last month.
