WEATHERErie County chefs rally behind food bank event

Erie County’s top chefs are used to feeding the hungry — but this time they’re doing it for charity.
Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio, which supplies food to many food pantries in the area, has brought back Generous Helpings, a culinary event on Oct. 2 that raises money for the group.
The event is at Second Harvest’s Lorain headquarters, but a who’s who of top chefs in Erie County have agreed to help, including chef Cesare Avallone of Zinc Brasserie and Crush Wine Bar, the Culinary Vegetable Institute, chef Beth Ringlein of EHOVE Career Center, Marconi’s Italian Restaurant and Wendy Kromer of Wendy Kromer Confections. Bettcher Industries, an Erie County manufacturer that produces meatpacking, food preparation and medical tools, is one of the event’s sponsors.
Ken Feathers, pastry chef at Marconi’s, participated last year and will return again this year. Last year Feathers brought almond esse cookies and prepared sausage and sweet pepper pasta.
“It’s one of our most popular dishes. I’m sure I’ll have something equally delicious this year,” he promised.
Second Harvest serves Erie, Huron, Lorain and Crawford counties.
