People like Already Gone (already left the area?, already drunk this morning?) exhibit Kasich Syndrome- the autonomic reflex to put everything in theoretic negative tax terms with out regard to reality.
It doesn't take much talent to do this and you can do it with virtually any governmental action, but at a certain point it crosses over into a disorder that cannot be controlled. As people learn about this affliction they vote Strickland, who is now in statistical tie for reelection after being down 14%.

Have you read the article? The article said that KI residents WANTED this land to be preserved and NOT sold to developers. Sounds like it doesn't bother them that potential property tax paying land is being taken out of play. Maybe they like the island life and know that their property is now more valuable because the rest of the island has not had every square foot of land developed.
I am glad this land will remain in as much of its natural state as possible and not bulldozed out of existence. EMP also got a grant to provide funds to purchase the land; a grant that, had they not applied for it, would have gone to some other park district. The funds are there; they are wise to apply for them and SAVE tax dollars paid by Erie County residents.
People will come here, to Erie County, to get away from bigger urban areas that developed most of their natural areas out of existence years ago. If these special places are not preserved, we will end up the same way. All of Erie MetroParks' lands combined are still about -one third- as big as NASA Plum Brook. No one is complaining about their land, much of which is not being used and not paying property taxes either.

I can't believe that we can continue to spend tax dollars in a recession. Especially when this land takes dollars out of the property tax base that is in so much trouble. Island realestate is some od the most valuable in erie county yet we keep taking out of the tax base. How many islands does the state need to own?11:21 AM

Now being a park ranger on Kelleys during the summer would be a sweet job. There is no need for a park ranger to stay on the island during the winter. I am sure this duty will be determined by seniority.
