Huron grad pitches for Reds tonight

NEW YORK Matt Maloney, a 2002 Huron graduate, was called up by the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday to start in tonight's game against the New York Mets. The game is slated for a 7:10 p.m. start.

Asian carp crisis bill introduced

SANDUSKY Lawmakers in both the House and the Senate have introduced a new bill in Congress, "The Permanent Prevention of Asian Carp Act of 2010," that puts the Army Corps of Engineers on a tight deadline to construct a permanent barrier in Chicago to keep the Asian carp out of the Great Lakes.

River ramp opens in Huron

Ohio EPA finds water quality problems in Sandusky Bay tributaries

SANDUSKY A recently released Ohio Environmental Protection Agency study shows problematic levels of nitrates and phosphorus in Sandusky Bay tributaries. Such concentrations of nutrients can cause algae growth and low oxygen levels in the waterways.

Huron woman accused of assaulting kids over breakfast deemed incompetent for trial

HURON The Huron woman accused of abusing her two young sons during breakfast last month was deemed incompetent to stand trial Friday Mary Pena, 42, 300 block Williams St., was charged with two counts domestic violence and two counts child endangering May 31 after her 9- and 11-year-old sons ran to the Huron Police Department for help.
