SANDUSKY Lawmakers in both the House and the Senate have introduced a new bill in Congress, "The Permanent Prevention of Asian Carp Act of 2010," that puts the Army Corps of Engineers on a tight deadline to construct a permanent barrier in Chicago to keep the Asian carp out of the Great Lakes.

SANDUSKY A recently released Ohio Environmental Protection Agency study shows problematic levels of nitrates and phosphorus in Sandusky Bay tributaries. Such concentrations of nutrients can cause algae growth and low oxygen levels in the waterways.

HURON The Huron woman accused of abusing her two young sons during breakfast last month was deemed incompetent to stand trial Friday Mary Pena, 42, 300 block Williams St., was charged with two counts domestic violence and two counts child endangering May 31 after her 9- and 11-year-old sons ran to the Huron Police Department for help.
