Samuel J. Pisano Sr., 83, of Huron, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.

He was born Jan. 15, 1929, in Huron, and was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Huron High School in 1947. He worked for the Lake Erie Ore Docks, Huron, for several years and then worked for Metropolitan Insurance Company, retiring in 1991.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Korean War as a sergeant.

He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron, and Huron Eagles. He owned and operated the Ritz Movie Theater in downtown Huron, for seven years. He was an inductee into the Huron High School Hall of Fame. In his younger years he traveled with the Huron G’s semi-pro baseball team. He was an umpire for softball for more than 30 years and was always seen around Huron athletic events.

Survivors include his daughter Debra (Chris) Clemons of Marblehead; six sons, Bruce of Castalia, Dan of Huron, Gary of Westerville, Sam (Christine) Jr. of Huron, Charles (Rosemary) of Clearwater, Fla., and Dick (Cheryl) of Delaware, Ohio; 26 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister Rosemary (Joseph) DeFazio, of Huron; a brother Ralph C. Pisano, of Huron; and a brother-in-law Joseph “Jake” Majoy, of Huron.

He was preceded in death by his wife Darlene (Rogers) in 1990; his parents, Carmelo and Caroline (Lolla) Pisano; sister Antoinette “Lilly” Majoy; and daughter-in-law Leslie (Templeton) Pisano.

Friends may call 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at St. Peter Church Gathering Space, 430 Main St., Huron. Funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Deb. 3, at the church with the Rev. Jeffery Sikorski, pastor, officiating. Entombment will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron, or to the Huron Athletic Booster Club, PO Box 184, Huron, OH 44839.
