John C. Gettman, 87, of Huron, and formerly of Fremont, passed away Monday afternoon, Jan. 30, 2012.
John was born April 7, 1924, in Columbus Grove, Ohio, son of the late Lloyd and Marguerite (Adrain) Gettman. John was a graduate of Baldwin Wallace College, and earned a master’s degree in hospital administration from Northwestern University. He was the administrator of Fremont Memorial Hospital for more than 30 years.
John was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Huron; a former member and elder of First Presbyterian Church in Fremont; a member of Fremont Elks; a 32nd Degree Mason; a member of the Shriner’s Club; a member of Kiwanis Club; and a former member of the Fremont Country Club. John enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing and traveling.
John is survived by his wife, Barbara, whom he married Oct. 23, 1954; two daughters, Mindy Zielke of Auburn, Ind., and Lisa (Martin) Igel of Upper Arlington, Ohio; three grandchildren, Margaret Igel, Barbara Igel and Evan Zielke; one sister, Lillian McElroy of Columbus Grove; one brother, Tom (Jane) Gettman, of Columbus Grove; one niece; and one nephew.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at First Presbyterian Church, 225 Williams St., Huron, until a memorial service at 2 p.m. The Rev. David Aber will preside over the service. Interment services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Oakwood Cemetery, Fremont.
