Thanks guys way to pull together
Its nice seeing people fixing up the city...good job
They must be running for sandusky commisioners.......
Where's the lawnmower?
Thank you Home Depot employees and SFD and volunteers
Follow this Sandusky park project, as well as others, on Facebook at Rejuvenate Sandusky.
Thanks to Team Home Depot for their volunteer efforts as well as donations of wood, paint and rollers.
Also thanks to the Gyro Stand and Port Sandusky Restaurant for donations of food to feed the volunteers.
Thanks to the community members and SFD also volunteering for the project.
The project is not quite complete with additional painting needed as well as a new dugout on the east side of the field in the coming weeks.
Thank you for helping to coordinate this project!
Glad to see the community step it up and do something other than complain. We can't always rely on government, not a bash on the City, because funding is not always there. A little sweat equity and alot can get done. Just need to be willing to work and that is the problem most times. Everyone wants things done for them. Question is though, how many of the neighborhood citizens were helping with this project?
@ Forward Looking.
Great question. The session Saturday was finalized at somewhat of the last minute.
The Little League ball teams practicing at the field have agreed to help out as the project continues.
Sandusky elected officials will be invited once again with hopes they will pay a visit and grab a paint brush.
It's nice to see a neighborhood park revitalized...thanks to all. Will there be plans to bring back softball leagues or will it stay a pick-up style playing field?
We are not aware of any attempt at organized games at the particular park.
The idea was to provide a better facility for the Little League teams currently practicing at this location in addition to pick-up games.
I personally suggested to the City Recreation Board providing some sort of unofficial baseball, softball or sponge ball summer playground program at the field for 2014.
Long term, we have at least one local business interested in adopting the field with plans to maintain the infield.
This great to see . but it would have been better served if it would have been taken care of earlier in the year , Its getting done now that the kids are in school and dont have time to enjoy the the labors of all involved .
I was hoping to see something being down when I first read about this mess , and that was months ago .
Thank you. Shedding light on the timing of this project.
There were communication and interest level issues with the City with final approval from the City's top brass coming this past Friday. Team Home Depot works on a variety of community projects, including recent activity at OVH, so yesterday was the best fit for this project after hurdles were addressed.
While work on this project is ongoing and will be completed soon, neighborhood youth and Little League teams with have a vastly improved ball field to hone their skills next year.
T.A...All I am reminding readers on here is that to many time Sandusky Commission has dragged their feet in getting things done IN sandusky . Its up to the parks dept to bring problem areas to The Commission and its up to the commissions responablity to take care of public parks . Its just goes to whow us that our city has not paid attention , or just dont care , either way the city needs to either take care of area by maintaining them . I am sure that the elected officials have had to at one point drove by not only this area but others as well and seen that things needed to be done . You also have city workers that go all around the city doing jobs that could have reported this problem to the city and gotten it taken care of .
I know of a town that has a park that is very large in size and its maintained very well .You dont see that town allowing things to get out of controll . I would say that this park is three time to four times the size of Osborn Park . That will give you an idea of what I am talking about , and thats in Paducah Ky . Sandusky could take notes off this city ,
And in closing ,the city of SANDUSKY needs to clean up and repair after every winter and the parks are no different , they are part of the city .In the spring you have crews cleaning up the other parks , Why not all of them ?
I can't argue with you there.
Too many time elected or appointed government officials don't take the time to look around and take note of what needs to be done for the entire City. They get wrapped up in their own agenda--what a shame.
It would be cool to see some type of volunteer program set up to allow citizens to clean up parks or what not since money is always an issue
In Sandusky there is such a program. Adapt A Park information is on the City's web-site.
