If you look at what the cost is for a $150,000 house it is $261.45 a year. Is that on TOP of what you normally pay in taxes already? If so....WOW.
That is a chunck of change for someone already paying the high cost of taxes in Perkins Twp. Then add on the cost of the new fire levy and a possible levy for Police? WHEW. I would vote for a police levy, but you would have to be NUTS to add an almost $300 per year addition to your taxes over 10 years to your taxes for a new school. That is a LOT of money to pay. We were looking at houses out there. Your taxes are not cheap.
Why not try and raise some money in other ways BEFORE asking for the taxpayers to pony up this kind of cash? This is excessive if you ask me....which no one did....but wow, that is a lot of cash to pay out.
Granted its $130.73 a half, but that is still a great deal of money. What about those who have houses with a higher tax ratio than $150,000 on their property. What about those who's property is worth $190 to $200,000 out there? I would hate to see what THEIR cost is going to be.
This isn't being thought through very well. I would have thought the board would have brought up ways of raising money BEFORE asking the taxpayers to assume the lions share of the cost. This just doesn't make much sense. Not at all. And they want new "digs" too? Why? Give them room in the old school building to save money. Don't take it all down. Be conservative on some of this. Why do they need anything better than that?

If renovation is started, then the entire building must be brought up to current code: all asbestos tiles removed and replaced, all outside pipes holding electrical wiring would have to be moved in side, any other items (plumbing, etc.) would have to be brought up to code. That is why the cost to build new would more sense than trying to renovate and having to fix all the other code issues.

Renters don't mean a thing....the people who own the house still pay the property tax. Didn't you know that? Renters may not pay it, but the property owners still must pay it. I don't know where people think that because a property is rented out no tax is paid, because that simply isn't true. The OWNER of that property STILL must pay it. They own it.

Perkins has the second lowest tax burden for schools in the Erie County, and the tax burden is well below the state average for school tax burden. Additionally, a majority of the property tax in Perkins is paid by commercial property owners, not residential as in most other communities. In ten years (timing of the emergency levy) the TIFF arrangement for Kalahari and Lake Crest expire at which time the district will receive the property tax dollars now being use to pay for infrastructure along 250. But, the district has to get thru the next ten years without gutting the school system and its programs.
I had a Perkins teacher call and ask me to support the levy. I told her I would if she gave me an extra $400 to help me pay my new taxes. That got her off the phone in a hurry! Vote no 'til Gunner goes.

I just wonder where his parents happen to be employed. Could it be they are teachers? The mother making over 67,000 and the Father 82,000. Build the new school with the walking path so the kids can walk. The roads will soon deteriorate. Let the kids arm themselves because there won't be any police to protect them on the paths but they'll have a nice new school.

It saddens me to see so many Perkins residence agains the Perkin's School Levy. I can't believe that families are not supporting their own kids. A poor school district only leads to a poor community-including lower property values. How can people of this community attend the school events and pretend to be such proud PIRATE FANS, and then turn around and ignore the needs of the school. I attend many school events in numerous SBC schools, and I am ashamed to say that Perkins has some of the poorest facilities in the area. Perkins has many outstanding academic programs and a beautiful new stadium. Now let's bring our schools up to standards too. In the end you will all benefit from a yes vote!

With that money I could feed a family of 4 dinner at Wendy's or fill up 6 gallon gas can. Maybe you have that kind of money to throw around, but kindly remove your hand from my wallet!

I believe education is the easiest and least expensive way to improve your lot in life. I believe in personal responsibility to use the resources available provided by the community.
I don't believe bricks and mortar have significant effect on that education. If the community believes the facilities are adequate to provide students the resources needed to educate than that's it. It's the voting public's opinion not the board of education or the superintendent's.
Put it out to vote for a new building and let the chips fall as they may. Isn't that the ideals our country was founded on?

Their kickback comes when the next collective bargaining agreement is made.
