Only one area football team was among those ranked in the state’s first Ohio High School Football Poll, released Monday evening by the Associated Press.

Huron, which is 3-0 for the first time in four years, finds itself ranked No. 10 in Division IV based on a panel of votes from sports writers and broadcasters throughout Ohio.

The Tigers are coming off a 38-0 win Friday against St. Paul, and so far have outscored their opponents 127-43. They have two shutouts.

Huron begins Sandusky Bay Conference play when it hosts four-time defending league champion Clyde (1-2). That game is a 7 p.m. kickoff Friday at Huron Memorial Stadium.

The first poll of the 2010 season had three teams ranked in the Top 20. So far in 2011, only two area teams, Huron and Norwalk, are unbeaten.

There are several teams of area interest that were ranked:

• Fremont Ross, No. 8 in Division II

• Tiffin Columbian, No. 11 in Division II

• Genoa, No. 4 in Division IV

• Pemberville Eastwood, No. 15 in Division IV

• Seneca East, No. 20 in Division V

Each school is listed by ranking, their first-place votes in parentheses, their record, and total points.
