Post 83 bests Fremont Post 121 in battle of 5th District best

The Sandusky American Legion Post 83 baseball team made an early and emphatic statement Wednesday.

In a matchup of the two top teams record-wise in the seven-team 5th district field, Post 83 pounded out 18 hits en route to a 14-5 win over Fremont Post 121 at Fremont Ross High School.

On June 3, Post 83 had to hold off a late Fremont rally for a 10-9 win at Perkins High School. It was a far different story on Wednesday.

"I told the kids it was a big game, and we couldn't have a letdown after playing well on Tuesday," associate Post 83 head coach Mike Shepherd said. "We wanted to keep it going, and send a message that we want to be the team to beat in the district. I hope we did that tonight."

Kendrick Aaron (Sandusky) continued his steady pace this summer for Post 83 (19-4), pitching seven innings and allowing three earned runs. Now 5-0 on the mound, Aaron struck out three and walking one. He allowed three singles in the first inning, but just five hits over the next six innings.

"They got to him a little bit early, but it didn't shake him," Shepherd said of Aaron. "He did what he does. He got ahead in the count. He'll give up some hits here and there, but he pitches out of jams a lot because he gets a lot of groundballs and weak pop-ups. As long as he throws strikes, he's going to be solid."
