Local nightlife? Yeah, we’ve got that

Funcoast • May 13, 2015 at 8:42 AM

From the heart of Sandusky to on-the-fringes island life in Put-in-Bay, music is everywhere — you just have to know where to look. Lucky for you, the area boasts a wide range of performers for all tastes.

The Underground

224 E. Water St., Sandusky

419-609-9463 or facebook.com/UndergroundSandusky

The largest nightclub and live music venue in Sandusky, it’s not for the faint of heart. Packed with rowdy, raucous crowds most nights, it’s been known to get a little crazy from time to time. But if you can handle eardrum-spitting music and shoving your way through throngs of people as they spill drinks down your shirt, this is the place for you. Recently renovated and under new ownership, it offers several pool tables, video games, a professional concert stage and sound system, a smoking lounge and extremely competitive drink prices ($1 drafts and no alcohol priced over $7). In terms of music, they’ve got entertainment covered — you’ll find tons of local, regional and national bands playing anything from rock and hip hop to DJ and acoustic sets. Open seven nights a week, there’s always something going on. Just check the frequently updated calendar at Funcoast.com.

Mr. Ed’s Bar & Grille

255 W. Lakeshore Dr., Port Clinton

419-734-2243 or mredsportclinton.com

300 Delaware Ave., Put-in-Bay

419-285-5042 or mredsputinbay.com

Original local bands are the highlighted features at both Mr. Ed’s locations, but the entertainment schedule is also peppered with better-known acts such as Hillbilly Casino (Nashville, Tenn.) and LoveSick Radio (Columbus, Ohio). Originally established in 1997 as a hometown pub providing excellent food and service, Mr. Ed’s has quickly grown to become an area favorite for all who pass through its doors — not to mention a pretty reputable name when it comes to hosting music. At both locations, Mr. Ed’s is connected to a hotel, providing easy access for those who want to enjoy entertainment and the feeling of a night out without the hassle of having to find their way back to the hotel.

Best for: Rock, pop, original music

Roundhouse Bar

Delaware Ave., Put-in-Bay

419-285-2323 or theroundhousebar.com

One of the hottest island spots, the Roundhouse has been a famous island for over 135 years. In fact, it’s known for being a trendsetter — it was the first drinking establishment on the island that allowed men and women to drink together. In addition to daily live music, a packed dance floor and delicious food and drink, the Roundhouse has huge celebrations (often island-wide), including Christmas in July, St. Paddy’s Day (in September), Mardi Gras (in May) and the infamous Bartender Olympics.

Nick's Roadhouse

124 Buckeye Blvd., Port Clinton

419-732-3069 or nicksroadhouse.com

A quadruple threat — sports bar, restaurant, patio and nightclub — would be the best way to describe Nick's Roadhouse. After serving the area for almost 20 years, it's a pretty good guess that they've got the service and atmosphere thing down pat. Several regualr performers make the rounds at Nick's, providing constant entertainment and fun. Delicous food makes it even better, and with the amazing prices and daily specials, what more could you need?
