The Ida Rupp Public Library has frequent movie nights, and tonight’s film is “Secretariat.” The story: When Penny Chenery (Diane Lane) agrees to take over her ailing father’s thoroughbred stable, she transforms from housewife to horse breeder and owner of the colt that will take the 1973 Triple Crown. The film explores Chenery’s bond with “Big Red” and depicts her rise to greatness as the “first lady of racing.” John Malkovitch plays trainer Lucien Laurin, and Fred Dalton Thompson co-stars as big-shot breeder Bull Hancock.

3.) Duck Derby & Duck Derby Afterparty
Why you should go: This fundraising event is kind of a big deal — and not just for the Sandusky Main Street Association and United Way, which receives the funds for programming. After purchasing your duck for the big race, you’ll see the ducks dumped en masse into the Kalahari Waterpark’s Lazy River. Top winners will receive some amazing prizes, including a home entertainment center package, Jet Express season passes, a weekend getaway at Kalahari, a Sandusky Mall shopping spree or a two-year lease on a brand new Chevy Cruze.
