2011 RCA Winners: Best Coffeehouse

Creamy, frothy lattes. Rich hot chocolate. A perfectly balanced chai tea. A go-to daily brew. You'll find all of these things and more at our readers' coffee hot spots, which offer up a lot more than you might think. From charming baristas to surprisingly well-rounded menus, these places are more than happy to satisfy your jonesing for java.

FIRST PLACE: Mr. Smith’s Coffee House

Hours: 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Mon.-Fri., 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Sat., 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sun.

1.)    What do you think made you a finalist in the Readers’ Choice Awards?

We asked everyone to vote for us.  Our customers are awesome like that.

 

2.)    What’s one unique thing about your business (a specific menu item, a special service) that people would be surprised to know you offer?

Our veggie wraps are pretty popular with those in the know.

 

3.)    What’s your favorite thing about the Northcoast Ohio area?

It's home. We have all 4 seasons and every kind of person to keep things interesting.

 

4.)    Besides your own business, what’s your favorite thing to do/place to go in the area?

We love Crush, and Kalahari.

 

5.)    Do you have anything in particular you’d like to tell the Funcoast.com readers?

We really love being part of the downtown business community. More and more downtown Sandusky is becoming a great place to go, and we love being a part of that.

1.)    What do you think made you a finalist in the Readers’ Choice Awards?

We didn’t even know we had made the finals until our customers told us and when we found out, we were excited. The thing that keeps people coming back would be our great product and our amazing customer service.

2.)    What’s one unique thing about your business (a specific menu item, a special service) that people would be surprised to know you offer?

One thing people might not know is that all our tips we make we give to charity, and we pick different charities every time.

 

3.)    What’s your favorite thing about the Northcoast Ohio area?

Our family and customers are favorite things about living in Northcoast Ohio.

 

4.)    Besides your own business, what’s your favorite thing to do/place to go in the area?

When we out to eat we go to Marconi’s in Huron, and we are boaters, so we love the lake.

5.) Do you have anything in particular you’d like to tell the Funcoast.com readers?

I think this quote really says it all: “Blessed are the flexible, for they will never be bent out of shape.” You have to be able to bend or you will break.

Java City offers high quality espresso beverages and cold drinks at competitive prices. Java City is a place to enjoy a delightful beverage with a friendly smile, which provides a pleasant respite for visitors and staff throughout the Firelands community.

2.)    What’s one unique thing about your business (a specific menu item, a special service) that people would be surprised to know you offer?

Java City offers their own signature blend of coffee and is conveniently located off the main lobby of Firelands Regional Medical Center’s Main Campus and South Campus. For those who are health-conscious, Java City offers a wide selection of low-fat beverages and snacks along with the largest selection of sugar-free coffee syrups and flavorings in Northeast Ohio. Most drinks at Java City have the option of being served hot, iced, frozen, with or without coffee, decaf, regular or sugar free.

3.)    What’s your favorite thing about the Northcoast Ohio area?

The Northcoast area offers numerous activities to year-round residents and visitors. It is an excellent place to live, work and play, offering great healthcare, schools and it is close to great shopping and cultural opportunities.

5.)    Do you have anything in particular you’d like to tell the Funcoast.com readers?

Java City is open to the public, and prices are very reasonable for a variety of delightful drinks and snacks served with a smile.
