Get ready to party Mardi Gras-style

Ashley Bethard • May 13, 2015 at 8:42 AM

Eat, drink and be merry — that’s the name of the game on Fat Tuesday. We’ve got a few suggestions to help you celebrate this last hurrah. Locally, Fat Tuesday is generally celebrated with Paczki, a specialty Polish doughnut, which you can find at most area bakeries.

Personally, we’ve heard great things about the ones at Kiedrowski’s Bakery, located at 2267 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst.

Three ways to celebrate:

1.)    Get dolled up. Attend a masquerade ball or throw one of your own. Wear decorated costumes and don’t forget to bring your Mardi Gras mask. Decorate in a festival theme if you’re throwing your own party.

2.)    Eat some food. Delight in some Cajun cuisine or New Orleans treats. Have some traditional Cajun dishes, such as gumbo, crawfish and jambalaya. For a sweet treat, try a Paczki, a rich doughnut or a King cake.

3.)    Listen to music. Try some blues or a jazz band.

4.)    Dance on the street. Super easy — you don’t even have to be in New Orleans to do this.
