James Parlin, the Pennsylvania artist whose sculpture was removed from the Little Gallery at BGSU Firelands, has issued a statement giving his take on the whole affair.
President Barack Obama has just given a speech in Arizona announcing his program for helping homeowners who are struggling to make their mortgage payments.
It was another tough week. I was out of town Sunday (March 29) through late Tuesday (March 31) fishing in Northern Michigan for steelhead. I had a great trip and caught fish. I brought home four 8-10 pounders.
This has proven to be my most difficult month. I have only lost a couple of pounds. We haven’t done an inch measurement because Trevor Tieche, my personal trainer, has been out of town and I have had to work out on my own.
This has been a difficult past week for me because of the many things happening. My daughter-in-law gave birth to our third grandchild on March 20 at 5:44 a.m. so I have been back and forth to Columbus twice in the past five days.
The week of March 8 was a great workout week and only a so-so diet week. The workouts with Trevor were some of my best since we began. I completed three workouts, each about 90 minutes. I am beginning to feel a little quicker in my agility drills and much stronger with the weights.
Another uneventful week, except that eating in the evening is very tough for some reason. I am doing very well during the day when I am occupied and do not have easy access to food.
Eating the week of Feb. 8 was good during the day, but I am still having some problems with dinner fitting in with all the rest of what I am eating. Because of work, swimming and a power outage, I only had two workouts this week – one with Trevor Tieche (my personal trainer) and one without.
As far as eating is concerned, this has been the most difficult week for me. I had swim meets on Feb. 3, Feb. 6 and all day Feb.7 (41st Annual Ken Gipe Relays).
Jan. 26: Today was kind of a blah day. Eating went OK, but didn't get to eat dinner until almost 10 p.m., so it was very long between my late afternoon snack and dinner. Got very hungry and gave into some bread with my meat and rice. I am hoping for a good report at the end of the week.
Jan. 19: Back to the grind today. Did well on the diet with shakes, bar, fruit and balanced dinner. Four swim meets this week so it will be tough to get the workouts in, but we are scheduled for Wednesday and Friday night.
This past week has been uneventful as far as dieting and working out. I came down with flu-like symptoms on the afternoon of Feb. 15 and ended up with the flu and pneumonia until late in the afternoon on Feb. 19.
Jan. 12: Tough day. Spent the day cleaning snow from cars and moving cars everywhere - great exercise, but the boss bought Pizza Hut pasta and breadsticks for everyone for lunch - couldn't resist. I only had one breadstick and a couple of spoons of the pasta. It tasted good, but I felt guilty.
I have been overweight since second or third grade. If I sit back and take that journey, I can remember the hurtful names that kids called me. Not only can I remember what they called me, I can remember exactly who was doing the name-calling.
I think there should be more hours in the day. This past week was extremely busy and hectic. March 2, I was mandated at work. Mandating is when I have to work up to an additional eight hours on top of the eight hours I already put in for the day.
I’m happy to say that I weighed in the week of March 1 at 233.6, only 1 1/2 pounds away from being down 20 pounds. I am starting to accept what the scale is reading when I step onto it. My energy level is finally starting to increase.
