Denzel Castile, 18, vividly remembers Oscar Charles sitting alone in the Sandusky High School cafeteria on the first day he arrived to the school in October 2009.
"I walked over and asked him where he was from, and I asked him about his accent because he talked so weird,' Denzel said. "By the third day of school, he asked if he could come to my house until his uncle got off from work, and we clicked ever since.'
This was the beginning of a friendship Denzel can only treasure through his memories of 18-year-old Charles, who was shot and killed less than two weeks ago in his hometown of New Orleans.
