Woman dies from house fire

WILLARD Just before 6 p.m. Thursday, Imelda Muniz called 911 to report she had just set her furniture on fire and needed someone to respond. Muniz, 39, of Willard, gave her address, 524 Pleasant St., and a dispatcher told her to flee the home. She refused.

Like many Americans, I am concerned about the effect that government pensions are having on the economy. And this is not necessarily a matter of whether or not the pensions are deserved. Far from it. In the case of police and firemen, they should be getting larger pensions than they are already. The question is, can we afford it?

Finally. The county plans to move forward with an automated records keeping system with, or without, the assistance of Erie County clerk of courts Barbara Johnson. The system Johnson has maintained for the last two decades is woefully inadequate, effectively denying the public access to public records with the poor excuse that it's difficult to maintain the records.

On March 26, I read the article about Asher Nikolajevs. I have gone to school with Asher, and I think it is a great thing the community is doing for him and his family. JUST IN: Car blaze next to gas pump causes alarm

HURON A car's engine caught fire next to a gas pump at the Shell gas station off Rye Beach Road in Huron shortly after noon today. The driver broke down at the gas pump, walked to get help and the car started smoking.
