Alex Webb removes the black bandana from around his neck, revealing a red scar at the base of his throat. The scabs from the surgery are nearly healed, but the scar will endure, forever reminding Webb of the two decades he relied on a breathing tube to live. The tube came out April 19, eight days shy of Webb's 21st birthday.

Several Sandusky Schools employees received letters Friday informing them they may be laid off. Sandusky Education Association president Brian Nitschke said about a dozen teachers received notice that they are on a "displaced list" and could lose their jobs if there are not enough retirements.

SANDUSKY A 20-year-old Sandusky man who apparently fell from a third-story window remains hospitalized, but his condition has improved. Sandusky resident Zachary Rowe was listed in fair condition at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center on Monday afternoon.

BERLIN HEIGHTS Erie County Sheriff's detectives are investigating a reported rape of a 19-year-old New London woman in a park near Berlin Heights on Friday evening. The woman told law enforcement she was raped by a 19-year-old Berlin Township man she knows while they were walking down a trail in a park.

The frustration Sandusky schools have with state officials bubbled over last month when the school board cut short a presentation by the state's Facilities Commission.
