The fianceé of a Wakeman man who was arrested after holding police at bay for two hours said he was afraid and never threatened to hurt her. Jacquie Hale said she and her fiancé, Gerald Hunter, stepped out onto the porch of their home Monday to go to a friend's place so Hunter could target-shoot. That's when they saw police and ducked back into their home.

VERMILION TWP. A 16-year-old boy was taken to the hospital by medical helicopter Tuesday evening after a van struck him in front of a house in the 14000 block of Darrow Road. The driver of the van fled the scene shortly after hitting the boy, but he has since been arrested, according to a dispatcher at the Sandusky post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

SANDUSKY The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for western Erie County and Eastern Sandusky County until 6:15 p.m. The doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capabble of producing a tornado. The storm was located near Clyde and is moving east at 45 mph.

A 28 year-old man with a history of domestic violence held his fiance hostage in a Wakeman home for two hours Monday evening before surrendering, police said. Gerald Hunter was inside the Cooper Street home armed with a 20 gauge shotgun. Wakeman police and Huron County sheriff's deputies evacuated nearby homes.

Erie County Sheriff's detectives are investigating an alleged rape in a park near Berlin Heights. Erie County Sheriff's deputies were called out to Firelands Regional Medical Center after 3 a.m. Saturday when a 19-year-old woman arrived there with her mother. Capt. Paul Sigsworth said the woman told them she was raped by a 19-year-old Berlin Township acquaintance.

SANDUSKY A 20-year-old Sandusky man who apparently fell from a third-story window remains hospitalized, but his condition has improved. Sandusky resident Zachary Rowe was listed in fair condition at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center on Monday afternoon.
