An overheated pool motor filled a storage room with smoke at Margaretta High School, interrupting a band banquet. Bobbi Elliott said a few dozen band students and their parents were eating in the gymnasium Monday evening when the fire alarm sounded, forcing everyone to evacuate. Crystal Bowersox's limelight will lend some of its glow to Ottawa County during the airing of American Idol this week. The folksy local singer visited her home county on Friday for a segment on the Idol finalists' hometowns. After dropping by her old stomping grounds in Elliston, Bowersox performed a short concert at the Ottawa County fairgrounds that drew 5,000 to 6,000 people.

A trailer went up in flames late this morning in the Inland Mobile Home Park & Marina. Officials said the trailer was bought just weeks ago and it's unclear whether the new owners had moved in yet or not. It's a total loss. Read more in Tuesday's Register
